One of the reasons for such erroneous restoration can be missing catalog files. When you create multiple backup set at same time by running various instances of NTbackup.exe and start backup procedure at same time, catalog files which allow restoration may get missing from Restore tab in Windows backup utility (NTBackup). The main concern of such scenario is that the error is not shown while creation of backup. The backup will be successfully created without any warning message or error, but when user tries to restore this backup with missing catalog files, error is thrown. Unfortunately these catalog files cannot be re-created as catalog file of one of the other backup which was being created at the same time exists on Restore tab already.
What Causes This Complication?
Windows backup utility generates catalog files for all the backup processes after their completion. The location of these catalog files is;
%SystemRoot%Documents and SettingsAccountLocal SettingsApplication DataMicrosoftWindows NTNTBackupcatalogs
Here, Account is the Windows logged in user account when backup was taken. Catalog files appear on NTBackup Restore tab to let users select which part of backup set is supposed to be restored. But if user starts two or more backup instances at the same time (or nearby), catalogs created for all backups will share same timestamp attribute. The backup set which was started first will appear on Restore tab and others will not. This can ultimately cease you from restoring the backup sets for which catalog files are not created and the error message displays that the catalog files are missing.
How to Recover BKF File Data?
In order to resolve such error issues in BKF restoration and letting users to get a medium where restoration is much easier than NTBackup restoration, third party solutions can be preferred. Such software solutions are able to recover data from backup files which are showing errors while restoration. Advance BKF Recovery tool is one of the recommended software which offers recovery of data from damaged or corrupted backup file. Software ensures complete data recovery and is compatible with all the versions of Windows Operating System.
